Usually on performance night, Danny Gans joined his band and team for a short prayer. But on Friday night, for the first time in years, they prayed without him.
They held each other’s hands in a circle of 16 people in the green room. The photos were framed by Gan posing with old Vegas (George Burns, Bob Hope, and Ray Charles) and new Hollywood (Polar Abdul, Tito Martinez, and Ben Stiller)
The 52-year-old impressionist died early Friday at his Henderson home. The cause of death is unknown.
Police conducted a death investigation at their home following police procedures on Friday morning, and Henderson police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said investigators did not believe the violence affected Gans’ death.
Rasmussen said police received a call around 3:45 a.m. from a woman inside a house in the Rome Hills gate community, which is off the Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. The woman said the 52-year-old was experiencing breathing problems. When police and paramedics arrived, they found the man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman for the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday that an autopsy was performed on Gans’ body. The cause of death is unknown amid ongoing toxicology studies and could take anywhere from two to four weeks.
Gans coach Chip Lightman texted Gans on Thursday.
“Everything looked fine. The only difference is, he was usually tired from running errands and things like that on his days off. He didn’t sleep well the night before. He lay down late in the afternoon.”

“She didn’t feel him breathing,” said Wrightman.
I called the paramedics, but it didn’t work.
Gans is an athlete and animation actor who was an avid golfer who turned to show business only after finishing his career in minor league baseball.
But he also had operations on his neck, shoulder, and wrist over the years. The most recent operation was in November, just after he finished a long journey in Mirage.
In a statement, Wrightman said, “Danny Gans will not only be remembered as a Las Vegas entertainer, but also as someone who loved her family, loved God, and loved the city of Las Vegas.
“Danny Gans has been my companion and precious friend for over 18 years. I will miss him with all my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife of 28 years, Julie Gans, and three children, Amy, Andrew, and Emily.”
Wynn Resorts Chairman Steve Wynn also released a statement about the celebrity.
“Elaine, I, and all of us at work are devastated by the death of a wonderful, talented, and loving friend. One of the most unique human beings and celebrities in the world was taken from us at an unexpected moment. It is a very tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless. The loss of Danny to his wife Julie and his children, Amy, Andrew, and Emily is incomprehensible at this time. We will all try to live our lives without our precious friends. At this time, it seems almost impossible.”
“He’s as talented as Sammy Davis Jr., there’s no replacement for him,” Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said Friday. “There are people whose memories and reputations will survive, and Danny was one of them.
“He lived the life he preached. It was always a clean show. It was always a sound show. That’s how he actually lived. It’s unique in itself. Most people are a little false about it, but Danny Gans is not,” Goodman said.
Gans was a rare entertainer who enjoyed almost the only fame in Las Vegas, rather than coming to the strip as a famous star in the way of Wayne Newton or Siegfried & Roy.
Instead, the Impressionist launched his first headline residence in Stratosphere in May 1996 after years of lucrative work on corporate and convention circuits.
“It was such a fairy tale,” he told the Review-Journal in 2000 when he was preparing to open a new exclusive theater in The Miraza.
