According to the volleyball community, Choi died on Wednesday at the age of 35. His funeral parlor was set up at Incheon Citizens’ Funeral Hall No. 204 located in Soongui-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon. The coffin will be sealed at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The cause of his death was not disclosed.

Choi Hong-seok, who graduated from Gaya Elementary School, Dongrae Middle School, Dongseong High School, and Kyonggi University, was named the first player in the first round of the rookie draft of the 2011-2012 V-League. He later worked for Vixtorm of Korea Electric Power Corporation and Eutman of OK Financial Group, and announced his retirement in 2022.

In the 2011-2012 season, he became the first rookie to win a triple crown (24 points including rear 5, serve 3, and blocking 3) and became the rookie of the year. Since then, he has recorded the triple crown twice, winning the 2013-2014 season’s skill improvement award, second round MVP, MIP in 2014 KOVO Cup, and 2015 KOVO Cup MVP. He has scored 3383 points in 331 games, 47.78 percent in attack success rate, and 33.42 percent in receiving efficiency.
