From 9 a.m., Jim Allen, president of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming, Joe Lupo, president of The Mirage, and Alan Feldman of the UNLV International Gaming Institute will give speeches.
The closure will take place at 11 a.m. on the same day, marking the end of the first mega resort in the Las Vegas Strip. This is in stark contrast to the unannounced Tropicana Las Vegas closure in April.
Hard Rock International, which acquired The Mirage in December 2022 from MGM Resorts International for $1 billion, vowed to honor its historic achievements.
Josh Swissman, founding partner of GMA Consulting, said The Mirage has changed everything in Las Vegas, as reported by CDC Gaming. He listed the volcano and the atrium show, the Siegfried & Roy show, and the aquarium as revolutionary landmarks that redefined the strip together. Swissman said this is a new era led by tribal-owned and operated gaming companies.
Oliver Robart, CEO of Denton Group, said The Mirage is a “big one” that paved the way for resorts with more than 3,000 rooms, such as Bellagio and MGM Grand.
But while its success is still buoyed by customers who have been loyal to it for nearly three decades, The Mirage is closing ahead of schedule to accommodate its ambitious plans for the redevelopment of Hard Rock.

The Hard Rock redevelopment project will include another theater, additional retail and convention space, and a significant expansion of casino floor space, along with a 700ft other shaped hotel tower. It is expected to create twice as much employment as currently exists in The Mirage during construction alone, while retaining thousands of workers long-term after completion.
In the last few days before closing, The Mirage has been a hive of activity, offering a cash prize of $1.6 million for six days, attracting thousands of visitors. Guests are enjoying their last moments at the property, and gaming activities will officially stop at around midnight on July 17.
After closing, the resort’s memorabilia will be auctioned off in mid-August for employees to bid, and some of the resort’s iconic signage can be preserved by the Neon Museum.
Hard Rock Las Vegas expects to open with a new guitar hotel in the spring of 2027, which promises a vibrant new chapter in the Mirage region. These changes aim to improve Las Vegas tourism and bring another wave of freshness to the strip’s offerings.
