The Gambling taxes may increase in Sweden

If someone is stable in the medical field it’s fine right now, but it’s not out of the woods yet.

The increase, which will take effect from July 1, 2024, could bring in an additional SEK 540.0 million in tax revenue each year and would help it reach its channelization target of 90%, according to Regeringen.

“Therefore, the reason to be careful when setting the level of taxation should not be as strong as it is now as it was when deregulation,” Legeringen said. “Rising from 18% to 22% is considered appropriate to strengthen financing of government activities without too much impact on the size of businesses and tax bases.”

However, BOS is strongly opposed by Sweden, fearing that the channelization rate when re-regulating the gambling market would fall below its previous rate in 2019, the same year it allowed operators to apply for licenses and provide legal gambling.

Gustav Hofstedt, secretary-general, said, “We have recently confirmed that the channelization of the Swedish gambling market has reached 77%. Some gambling industries, including online casinos, are as low as 72%. The trend is also decreasing. This means that channeling decreases over time.

“We are already far from the country’s goal of at least 90% channelization. If this tax increase is approved by Riksdag, we will soon end up with the channelization that Sweden had before re-regulating the gambling market in 2019. Sweden was re-regulated at the time because channelization was very low.

“The Swedish government has to do much better than this. There is still time to withdraw the proposal.”
