The SMSC opened the Little Six Bingo in 1982, which turned out to be the Little Six Casino in 1990 following government provisions of the 1988 Indian Gambling Regulation Act and minimal game indication between the SMSC and Minnesota. The SMSC and other Minnesota clans were the first U.S. to organize and sign state contracts for ancestors with the state government identified as gambling.

Mystic Lake Casino Hotel opened in 1992. It was named after a nearby swimming pool with a similar name. Its prosperity has helped book goals for the SMSC, including financial expansion and improvements to foundation and ancestral administration from the 1990s to the present.

In 2012, SMSC began a 10-year helpful concurrent run with Canterbury Park in neighboring Sharkopee, Minnesota, to help expand its portfolio for live pony racing and joint shows between Canterbury Park and Mystic Lake. In 2013, the first crowded season under the deal, Canterbury Park ended its longest season since 2006 with a total allocation, double the amount paid to pony owners in 2011.

In 2018, the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel’s most recently expanded Mystic Lake Center opened. The 70,000-square-foot conference and event space forces all-sized meetings for a variety of conferences and events, from conference to meeting events, reunions, exhibitions and weddings. The spiritual lake center has nine floors, a 180-room lodging tower; three giant ballrooms with customizable formats; a modest meeting room and a meeting room for leaders; and regularly plenty of glowing and beautiful green views.
