Lee Soo-kwang’s inauguration ceremony as the 11th KBL’s new president emphasizes “Fan First” and Yoo Jae-hak’s “Hard Call.”

Lee Soo-kwang (80), the new president of the Korea Basketball Association, has become the 11th head of the KBL. Lee held an inauguration ceremony at the KBL Center in southern Seoul on Sunday. “The flower of professional sports is fans. I will use the spirit of fan first as the highest value,” he said.

“With fan support, players gain strength, and clubs exist. There is still a long way to go. Now is the time for professional basketball to take a leap forward after overcoming various difficulties and starting anew. We will do our best to make professional basketball a festival venue for fans without leaving the fans of the returning spectators,” he stressed.

The popularity of professional basketball has been recovering since last season. Compared to the previous season, the number of spectators in professional basketball has increased by 23 percent. Admission to the regular league surpassed W10 billion for the first time. However, he expressed his will not to settle down here.

“Men’s professional basketball, which was launched in 1997, has established itself as a representative winter sport for nearly 30 years. We have experienced many ups and downs along with the changing times, but with the recent increase in public interest in professional sports, Korean men’s professional basketball is gradually regaining its past popularity and glory,” he said. “We will actively cooperate with the club to provide various fan services. We will further revitalize the integrated marketing platform and expand our contact point with basketball fans by utilizing new media.”

He also mentioned the game. “We will increase fairness and transparency of the game by increasing the number of referees and enhancing professionalism. We will fully gather opinions from the field when revising various systems and regulations. We will try to produce results that can be shared by common sense,” he said. “The federation will always keep its ears open. We will listen to the opinions of various stakeholders, including basketball fans, media, clubs and players, and try to reflect them as much as possible.”

Lee, a former professional manager who served as CEO of Dongbu Fire & Marine Insurance and Dongbu Construction, took over the audit of the Kim Jun-ki Cultural Foundation in February this year. He said, “I have experience working in various business fields. I will put all my capabilities into developing professional basketball.”

Since 2018, 10 clubs have been in charge of the KBL. KCC has been in charge for the past three years, and this time, DB will take charge. The term of office is until June 30, 2027.

Shin Hae-yong, former head of Wonju DB, was appointed as the secretary-general to manage the overall KBL administration, and Yoo Jae-hak, the best professional basketball master, will be the head of the game headquarters in charge of refereeing and game management.

“Battle occur due to the nature of basketball sports, and there is always ambiguity in the criteria for judging. We will do our best to make reliable judgments,” coach Yoo said. “The criteria for judging physical fights are different at home and abroad. There is definitely a part where players are embarrassed. KBL also needs some hard calls now.”

Criteria for judging decisions are important in basketball. A call in which players actively whistle for a physical fight is usually called a “soft call,” and a call in which players refrain from whistling for most contact while encouraging physical fight is called a “hard call.” In the international arena, people tend not to call for physical conflict other than core fouls such as holding hands and hanging legs.

He also stressed, “I have complaints that the flow of the game is being cut off a lot. I will discuss it carefully and try to make changes in that area. I don’t think it is appropriate if the judges do not have trust and fairness. I will make all the judges who belong to the team think that they are one team.” 메이저놀이터

After a two-year hiatus, he came back as an administrator, not a coach. “I feel very unfamiliar (to be the head of the Gyeonggi headquarters). I thought it would be very difficult. I accepted the offer after much consideration as KBL called me. I will manage the match without disappointment to fans,” he said.
